Shipping guide

A plain-language guide to freight options, containers, documents and delivery — so you can choose with confidence.

Freight modes

Air Freight

Best for urgent, lightweight or high-value goods. Transit is measured in days rather than weeks, at a higher cost per kilogram. Ideal for samples, spares and time-critical orders.

Sea Freight

The most economical option for bulk and heavy cargo. Full container load (FCL) gives you an exclusive container; less than container load (LCL) lets you share space and cost with other shippers.

Break-Bulk

For machinery and cargo too large or heavy for standard containers. Goods are loaded individually onto the vessel, requiring specialist lifting, securing and port planning.

Container types

ContainerTypical use
20ft StandardHeavy, dense cargo such as machinery parts, steel and minerals.
40ft StandardGeneral cargo and palletised goods with larger volume.
40ft High CubeLight, bulky cargo needing extra height.

Refrigerated (Reefer)Temperature-sensitive goods such as pharmaceuticals and produce.
